Oura, the maker of the popular health tracking smart ring, has postponed an initial public offering that would have raised up to 2.2 billion dollars, even as investor demand for the stock appeared unusually strong.

The company had planned to sell 50 million shares priced between 40 and 44 dollars apiece, a range that would have valued Oura at roughly 15.6 billion dollars on a fully diluted basis. According to people familiar with the offering, orders for the deal came in at about four times the number of shares available, a level of demand that would typically support moving forward with a listing rather than pulling back.

## A Strong Business Pauses Anyway

Oura's underlying business has shown little sign of trouble. The company's newest device, the Oura Ring 5, has been well received since launch, and its paying membership base grew to 5.7 million from 5 million at the end of June. Revenue is projected to climb roughly 90 percent year over year for the current fiscal year, and the proposed IPO valuation would have marked a significant jump from the 11 billion dollar price tag investors placed on the company roughly a year earlier during a 900 million dollar private funding round.

Oura cited broader uncertainty in the market as the reason for the delay rather than any specific concern about its own numbers. That uncertainty has been tied to shifting expectations around interest rates, volatility surrounding the broader AI investment boom, and geopolitical tension that has made the overall environment for new public listings choppier in recent months.

## A Crowded and Shifting Wearables Market

The decision also comes as competition in the wearable technology space intensifies. Large technology companies including Apple, Google, and Meta have been expanding their own lineups of AI powered wearable devices, spanning smart glasses, rings, and other wearable form factors, while the category as a whole faces growing public scrutiny over privacy and data handling. That competitive backdrop raises the stakes for Oura, which may need fresh capital to defend its position as a market leader even as it waits for calmer conditions to revisit a public listing.
